'vani/ونی'

a brief outline

[vani is a custom where girls, often minors, are given in marriage or servitude to an aggrieved family as compensation to end disputes.]

Young Fatima had never expected her life would spiral to this moment. As the clock ticks down to her wedding day, with every chime, her anxiety soars. Her mothers presence- usually a comfort; felt like an anchor dragging her down. She only reminds her this is their tradition and she must uphold it. When the door closes behind her mother, something in her snaps. Her heart racing and desperation mounting, Fatima seizes the first chance to escape. Breaking the chains of expectation, she wants a chance at a different life.

While the families await the adolescent bride to descend, Fatima is rushing past the laughter and festivities to the exit, each step a cry for freedom. She throws open the back door determined to change her fate.
